Contestants from Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Akron, Canton, Springfield and other cities are in the running for the title of Miss Gay Ohio America this weekend.
The pageant will take place at Axis in Columbus on Saturday and Sunday, July 9-10. The winner will move on to the 44th Miss Gay America pageant in Memphis, Oct. 5-9.
Miss Gay America is the world’s first and longest-running female impersonator pageant.
The pageant – and the entire Miss Gay America system – calls itself a “showcase for pure female impersonation,” meaning contestants must achieve feminine illusion through makeup, padding, costuming and other creative means. Contestants must be men, and they are not permitted to use female hormones, breast implants or injectable fillers such as liquid silicone.
One of the categories in the competition, Male Interview, requires contestants to dress in male attire.
Other categories are Solo Talent, Evening Gown, On-Stage Interview and Talent, which includes a big production number.
The reigning Miss Gay Ohio, Dayton’s Amanda Sue, will be honored during the weekend.
Contestants for this year’s crown include Mary Nolan of Columbus, Desiree Monoroe Crumble of Akron, National Holiday of Springfield, Trinity Monroe of Cincinnati and Valerie Taylor of Dayton.
